I'm a freelance designer, associate lecturer, and crowdfunder working remotely from my studio in Sheffield — or on-site for a range of clients and agencies. I develop brands and solve problems for E-learning and education institutions, conferences and festivals, music and arts organisations, and a wide range of independents across the UK. Since late-2018 I’ve freelanced as a UI Designer.

My projects outside of commercial design explore pattern repetition and obsessive detail, data visualisation, and open-source cartography — often funded using the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter (view campaigns).

I’m actively seeking new clients, freelance bookings, lecturing slots, and connections beyond the creative industries.

About Alex

Alex Szabo-Haslam was born in Sheffield in 1982. Years passed. Before becoming a designer, Alex ran techno and electronic music events booking artists such as Jerome Hill, Surgeon, Altern 8, DMX Krew, Andrea Parker, and DJ Rephlex Records.

Since graduating in 2010, Alex has worked for a wide range of clients, and freelanced for a number of Sheffield’s leading agencies — including Peter & Paul, The Cafeteria, Storycatchers, and LEO Learning.

In a parallel life Alex taught BTEC Media at Springs Academy, became an Associate Lecturer — teaching Graphic Design, Media, and Journalism — at The Sheffield College, and guest-lectured at Sheffield Hallam University.

Across a five-year spell I assisted more than 2,000 classes, supporting students with learning difficulties at one of the most challenging schools in Sheffield, and delivered over 1,000 sessions as a supply teacher and associate lecturer at a secondary school and FE college.

I’m familiar with planning, delivery, and assessment — working closely with multiple departments, pastoral teams, and external agencies.

I’ve run nine successful Kickstarter campaigns, selling printed products and limited editions throughout the world. Alongside print production I handle all aspects of planning, marketing and PR, delivery and fulfilment.
