I'm a freelance designer, associate lecturer, and crowdfunder working remotely from my studio in Sheffield — or on-site for a range of clients and agencies. I work independently, and sometimes collaborate with other creatives to roll-out graphic design and branding for education institutions, conferences and festivals, music and arts organisations across the UK. Since late-2018 I’ve freelanced as a UI Designer.

My projects outside of commercial design explore pattern repetition and obsessive detail, data visualisation, and open-source cartography — often funded using the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.

Please note: I do not accept commissions from clients / organisations that promote gambling, or other activities which exploit vulnerable people.

About Alex Szabo-Haslam

Alex Szabo-Haslam was born in Sheffield in 1982. Years passed. Before becoming a designer, Alex promoted a number of techno and electronic music events, including Headcharge and Sulphate.

Since graduating in 2010, Alex has worked for a wide range of clients, and freelanced for a number of Sheffield’s leading agencies — including Peter & Paul, The Cafeteria, Storycatchers, and LEO Learning.

In a parallel life Alex taught BTEC Media at Springs Academy, became an Associate Lecturer — teaching Graphic Design, Media, and Journalism — at The Sheffield College, and guest-lectured at Sheffield Hallam University.

Alex is actively seeking new clients, freelance bookings, and connections beyond the creative industries.

Across a five-year spell I assisted more than 2,000 classes, supporting students with learning difficulties at one of the most challenging schools in Sheffield, and delivered over 1,000 sessions as a supply teacher and associate lecturer at a secondary school and FE college.

I’m familiar with planning, delivery, and assessment — working closely with multiple departments, pastoral teams, and external agencies.

I’ve run nine successful Kickstarter campaigns, selling printed products and limited editions throughout the world. Alongside print production I handle all aspects of planning, marketing and PR, delivery and fulfilment.
